Several years ago, I watched the documentary Forks Over Knives, and it really resonated with me. I began thinking about health, nutrition, and the future of medicine in a different way and started incorporating more plants into my diet.
In 2018, my husband was in a life-threatening snowmobile accident. He was airlifted to a major trauma hospital where he was placed in the ICU. He had sustained severe injuries. We were not sure what the outcome would be and what his life would look like moving forward. Terrified of how to deal with this new reality, I went back to the 2011 documentary that had resonated so much with me and put the basic elements of plant-based eating into place to heal my husband. We embarked together on a holistic wellness journey and discovered so much more in the process. We found that wellness is a lifestyle, and this journey was life changing.
The other transformation that took place during this time of healing was my realization that I have a great capacity for empathy, listening and compassion. I have always been a great listener and sounding board for my friends, but now I knew that I could really be there for someone struggling and help them find a path forward in a constructive and healthy way. This was such a gratifying feeling that I set out on a path to help others. I took leave of the company I had spent my entire adult life helping to build, brought my experience from client development and human resource management, and enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. After a year long intensive program I received my certificate as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. This course was incredibly informative and enlightening and has set me on a beautiful new journey of wellness and helping others.
